Ela Troyano is a Cuban-born director writer and producer. Select films
include her feature debut “Latin Boys Go To Hell” (Strand Releasing) and
the award winning half hour short “Carmelita Tropicana” (First
Run Features). Troyano also directed the television network series
“Reyes y Rey” and “Angeles” for Telemundo/Sony and a one-hour
documentary for Spain’s Canal Plus titled “Urban Youth in the 21st
Century” . She directed “A to B” by Ricardo Bracho at INTAR (2002)
Off Broadway and will be collaborating with Carmelita Tropicana on a
new play at INTAR in the Fall of 2007. Her video installations, often in
collaboration with John Zorn and Tiffany Mills have been presented at
the Guggenheim Museum, Walker Arts Center (2004) and Joyce Soho (2007).
Selected awards include a Rockefeller Fellowship, the Teddy Bear at the
Berlin International Film Festival, a screenwriting workshop at Sundance
with Gabriel Garcia Marquez and funding from the Jerome Foundation,
Ford Foundation, Latino Public Broadcasting, New York State Council on
the Arts and Creative Capital.
